Michael Dalton and the Cambridgeshire Daltons by R.N.D. Hamilton  p.16
This Michael Dalton was a famous author of legal books about 1620.  His arms were the same silver lion on a blue background, though no connection with the Lancashire Daltons has been proved.  A family tree is given, showing the descendants of Thomas Dalton of Hildersham, died 1602 and his son Michael.
This Michael had considerable property in Cambridgeshire and chambers in Lincoln's Inn.  He was married twice and his second marriage was the subject of scandal, as their daughter Dorothy married her mother's half-brother, Sir Giles Allington, who was fined £12,000 for incest.  Michael is buried in West Wratting Church.  A John Dalton of Cumberland was Vicar of Little Abington in 1634 and may possibly be connected with these Cambridgeshire Daltons.

Historical memoir of the family of Dalton of the Kingdom of Ireland, by Michael N. Dalton  p.25
This paper is founded on manuscript notes left by an uncle of D.S. Dalton of Sheffield.  It lists the family of Dalton in Ireland, as recorded in documents in the Archives of the Herald's Office in Ireland.  The family is of Norman French descent and in the time of Henry II, went to Ireland.  Sir Walter De Aliton was given land in Westmeath and became the Governor thereof.  His wife Jane founded a nunnery.  His son, Sir Phillip, founded an Abbey and his descendants preserved their territories against all invaders.
In the Civil Wars, the head of the family was stripped of his possessions, but given a small estate in Connaught.  They raised a body of horse for King James II and intermarried with many other old Irish families of Norman descent.
One branch of the family settled in Waterford, but they too forfeited their property in the Civil Wars.  Another branch settled in Tipperary and hold their estates there to this day.  Their present descendant is Oliver Dalton of Rathconrath.  They are allowed to use the Coat of Arms of Counts of the German Empire, namely Azure, a Lyon rampant Argent.

The Junior Dalton Line, the Missing Link, by R. N. D. Hamilton  p.7
Chapter I.
This paper discusses the tradition that the Daltons of Witney, the so-called junior Dalton line, are descended from Roger Dalton of Thurnham.  The author gives a transcription of the will of Roger, dated 1588, which makes no mention of a son called Walter.  The possibility that the Witney Daltons are descended from the Yorkshire Dalton line is then discussed and suggestions made for further lines of research, to clarify the connections between the Yorkshire Daltons, the three Walter Daltons at Witney and James Dalton of Pembrey.
The Junior Dalton Line, the Missing Link by R. N. D. Hamilton  p.26
Chapter II.
The possibility that Lawrence Dalton, Norry King of Arms, was the father of the first Walter Dalton of Witney is discussed.  Transcriptions of the wills of Lawrence Dalton (1561) and his wife Dorothy (1595) are given.  There is no mention in either will of any children, so this possibility is discounted.
However, Dorothy seems to have had some connections with Cambridgeshire and this Chapter concludes with notes on the historical background of London in the time of Lawrence and Dorothy Dalton.

The Dalton gang is famous in legend as outlaws in the Wild West.  This paper looks at the real men, and their family.  Robert, Gratton and Emmett were brothers, sons of Lewis and Adilene Dalton, who had many children, all of whom are listed here.  Their grandparents and other relations are also detailed.
Three Dalton families of Oldham by Lucy Joan Slater    p.28
The first Dalton mentioned in the parish records of Oldham were John and Ellen who baptised a child in 1666.  Their descendants over seven generations are given as family trees.  Also, the extraction of burial records from Oldham St. Mary's has led to a correction being needed to the tree of the author's direct ancestors, given in D. G. S. J. Vol. 13, No. 1.  p.32
The Robert shown there as the head of this Dalton family in fact died a few months after his christening. so this part of the tree has had to be corrected as shown here. (Moral, always kill off your ancestors if you can!)
